Careers
Established in 1883, Nowlan & Mouat LLP is an AV rated, mid-size general practice firm. We are located in Janesville, Wisconsin, a flourishing community of 60,000 located just south of the state capital in Madison. The firm hires employees at the associate, summer clerk and support staff level. At all levels, professionalism and teamwork are top priority.

While several of our attorneys have roots in the Rock County area, our tradition of excellence has attracted a diverse group of professionals from throughout the Midwest. Nowlan & Mouat LLP attorneys hold undergraduate degrees from a diverse cross section of colleges and universities and represent law degrees from seven different law schools. Our fall recruiting regularly takes us to regional schools, including the University of Wisconsin and Marquette University Law Schools. At the support staff level, we hire from among the best available in the areas of secretarial, data processing, reception, and administrative skills.

Mentorship Program

Our mentorship program gives new associates and summer clerks exposure to all of our practice areas and different styles of practice. Through the program, a new associate/summer clerk:

  • Receives constant, ongoing support from one to three "mentor" attorneys with whom the associate/clerk is teamed;

  • Learns about new areas of law by being rotated through the different practice areas;

  • Experiences different styles of practice by working with attorneys other than his or her "mentor" attorneys.

With respect to associates, the ultimate goal of the mentorship program is to create an environment in which they may develop their own styles in areas of practice most suited to them. Associates who have been through the program appreciate the amount of client contact they are given early in their careers, in addition to the close relationships associates develop with their mentor attorneys.

With respect to clerks, our goal is to give them exposure to as many areas of the law as possible to enable them to make educated decisions regarding their career paths. Whether or not they ultimately accept a job with our firm, we find our clerks have universally appreciated this approach to their summer positions.
